On average, this equates to about $1,000 per child for the next school year. The budget negotiations in the state legislature, which just started a 105 day session, will determine many of the funding outcomes. A suggested topic would be the impact of the budget gap on your school, its programs, and your students. Queen Anne Elementary fund drive is still underway. We’ve raised $36,280 to date (57% of our goal). Thanks to the 47 families who have contributed! For those of you who were waiting for the new tax year, now is the time to write that check or visit paypal.com and make your donation. Please don’t put it off any longer!! Through our fundraising efforts to date, there are tutors in several classrooms, leveled classroom libraries have been augmented, Dreambox math software has been purchased, and an art teacher will be starting weekly instruction later this month for all QAE students. Making your donation today will enable the staff to purchase additional resources to positively impact every student this school year. For example, another $17,000 raised could fund the purchase of a laptop cart with 15 laptops to be shared between classrooms. Our goal is 100% participation from our parent community. Seattle Public Schools is moving ahead to adopt various textbook instructional materials for music, language arts, science and social studies. We are looking for a diverse group of volunteers to serve on these curriculum adoption committees. Also, to assist in the adoption process, we are reaching out for your comments and suggestions regarding instructional materials used in the programs, types of instructional materials you believe will move all students to standard, and what materials you would like to see in the adoptions. This part-time, contractual position will begin February 1, 2011 to administer the spring debate session, and pick up again in Sept. for the 2011-2012 Debate year. This position is responsible for all aspects involved in administering two, 12-week debate club sessions in four elementary schools. Specific duties include: Assist with the recruitment, hiring, and training of debate coaches, manage all program PR, communications, student registration, help coaches as needed with topic research and curriculum, organize and run two culminating tournaments, conduct and analyze program assessments and help assess student outcomes. The ideal candidate will have: •Excellent oral and written communication skills •Good interpersonal skills •Strong organizational abilities – must be able to handle and track multiple tasks. A background in event planning and management a bonus. •Experience with scheduling and managing data – a basic understanding of Excel and Word features a must, knowledge of databases a bonus •An ability to work well independently, take initiative when appropriate, and be a team-player. Must be able to work from home. •Public school familiarity and experience is required SSIA will provide training. No prior knowledge of debate is required, although it is helpful. The individual in this position reports to the SSIA Executive Director.
