School Choice for the 2016-17 school year ends on May 31, 2016.
This is a reminder to complete your school choice form as soon as possible. The sooner you apply, the sooner SPS can provide next year assignment information to all families. Waiting until the last day for school choice may significantly delay your student's results. Late choice applications will be accepted until May 31, 2016, but will not receive priority tiebreakers. To view your student’s assignment and waitlist information, please use the Assignment Lookup Tool. In addition, Admissions and Enrollment Planning developed a brief FAQ around the waitlist moves process. Waitlist moves may occur after May 31 to avoid staff disruption or in the event that program notifications have been completed by that time. All school and program waitlists for 2016-17 will be dissolved on August 15, 2016. If you have any suggestions from your experience at the Admissions Center or/and during the School Choice process, please participate in the following surveys: • Admissions Staff Experience • School Choice Experience May Dates:

The 2016-17 school year calendar was approved by the Seattle Public Schools School Board on May 4, 2016. Follow the link to find important dates. K-5 Language Arts Material Review The public is invited to review books and other teaching materials under consideration for elementary reading and writing in Seattle Public Schools. Ten vendors have submitted materials for the first round of our English Language Arts K-5 Materials Adoption. Smaller K-3 Class Sizes May Mean More Split-Grade-Level Classes Class sizes will be smaller for students in kindergarten through third grade beginning this fall, thanks to funding from the 2016 Legislature. The funding comes with strict class-size requirements for the primary grades. Because these requirements must be followed in order to receive the funding, this could impact how classes are organized. SPS Quick Links: What's New Subscribe to SPS School Beat Join us this summer for a fun, activity-filled program for curious minds and active bodies. Coe teacher John Brannan and Queen Anne Elementary teacher Joe Bailey-Fogarty team up for the seventh year to produce another Summer Explorers Club.
In the Explorers Club, kids will work on various projects that integrate creativity, technology and analytical thinking with three different weekly themes. Up to 30 students per week will have the opportunity to learn, play, and create during this summer program. All three weeks will have ample time for fun and frivolity. The Summer Explorers Club is appropriate for students entering 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Enrollment is limited, and spaces are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Week 1 - Focus on Games - July 11-15 Week 2 - Focus on Movie Making - July 18-22 Week 3 - Focus on Architecture - July 25-29 For more information and registration check out the Seattle Summer Explorers Club website! Full Circle Kids is a FUN, INTERACTIVE and EDUCATIONAL camp that helps to prepare K-5th grade children for the difficult task of growing up – in a HEALTHY way. Through games, activities, relays, team-building exercises and straight talk about all the important stuff to be healthy, happy and safe, Lori Ramage (MS, CPT) empowers children to manage big emotions like anger and disappointment, build their empathy toolkit to solve problems, navigate the challenging world of ‘friendship’, recognize the red flags for danger (abuse/bullying) and know exactly what to do about them, take care of their growing body, and be true to themselves when the whole world is telling them to be like everyone else! It’s Good. Healthy. Fun.
