10/4: Oktoberfest (more details to come) The QAE PTSA Garden Committee (with help from our Activities Chair) is hosting our Annual School Beautification Day on Saturday, 9/14, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.. We will be setting up raised planting beds, weeding, planting, painting (if the weather cooperates), mulching and sweeping our school into tip-top shape in anticipation of another terrific year as Explorers. Coffee and pastries will be provided for the volunteers.

Parents who feel that their children may be academically advanced and need accelerated learning opportunities are invited to explore the Advanced Learning pages on the Seattle Public Schools website: www.seattleschools.org/advlearning. Referral forms are available for download there, and will also be available in school offices next week. Applications for 2014-15 eligibility testing are due by Thursday, Oct. 3.

We have unicycles, chess, math, music, debate, QAE Robotics, ballet, art, Language Link, and—new this year—hip-hop dance and a musical production of Three Billy Goats Gruff! We also have two sessions of after-school hoops: one for K-2nd grade and another for 3rd-5th grade.

To be eligible to volunteer in the classroom, please sign up for QAE Volunteer Orientation. You’ll learn about volunteer guidelines, Positive Discipline, and staff expectations in this one-time 45-minute orientation that is required for all new volunteers before working with students.
