September Dates:
Welcome Back QAE Families! Here are few updates and reminders for the First Day tomorrow:
Thank you and hope everyone has a GREAT first day! It's a tradition at Queen Anne Elementary to start the first day of school with an all school photo. The bigger we get the harder it is to make this happen efficiently, so here are some easy to follow instructions:
In front of the wooden building, affectionately known as the tree house, we will have taped off a large rhombus. Principal David Elliott and staff will greet everyone from the stairs. Please meet there promptly at 9:30 am. After a few words, it will be time to take two pictures. The first will include EVERYONE; parents, students and staff. You will need to be inside the tape lines to be in the shot. Look up to the second floor windows, find the big camera and smile. When Tony, our photographer, has captured that shot, he will hold up two fingers to signal it is time for the second picture; the student and staff only picture. All parents should then exit the rhombus, take five or six giant steps back and Tony will snap a few more shots. It will then be time to find your child's teacher and let them go to their classroom. A Parent Reception will be held in the cafeteria (brick building), stop by for coffee and breakfast pastries. Hope to see you there. Thank You! QAE PTSA Due to the start of school being delayed, QAE PTSA has decided to cancel the Back to School Picnic that was scheduled for this Sunday, September 13. Thank you for understanding.
But don't fret just yet, the Fall Parent Social will be on Friday, October 16! The event planners would like help with this event. If you enjoy festive event planning, please contact Lauren Haley to help out. Thank you! You can find your child's teacher assignment if you log into The Source at SPS: ps.seattleschools.org/public. Please read the following bullet points as these assignments are not final and are subject to change:
Thank you for your patience and support as we attempt to piece together our enrollment through limited resources. SEA - Twitter | Facebook | Website | 9/9 Update
SPS - Twitter | Facebook | Website | 9/9 Update Strike Childcare Options for 9/9, 9/10 & 9/11 How to Support Our Teachers: 1. Follow their Twitter Feeds! 2. QAE parent volunteers are organizing through a "QAE Supports its Teachers and Staff" FB event, please contact Jaime Drozd Allen for more info. Joe Bailey-Fogarty, QAE 4th Grade Teacher, is looking for Parent Safety Patrol Monitors for the first two weeks of school to help our 5th / 4th grade student crossing guards.
Volunteers would wear a vest, have a walkie talkie, and roam among the three safety patrol posts checking in with the kids to see how they’re doing, provide guidance, or help out for a bit. Parent Volunteers would also add an adult voice reminding parents to be safe when dropping off kids, asking them to move farther away from the crosswalks, cross streets at the crosswalks with the help of the crossing guards, etc. Shifts: Mornings from 9-9:30am Afternoons from 3:35-3:55pm If you are available, please email Joe Bailey-Fogarty. K-2 Parents: If you’d like to meet other QAE parents and discuss parenting issues that are important to you, come to ParentNet. You’ll meet parents of children in the same grade as yours, and find it's a place to share stories and advice, commiserate a little, laugh a lot, and come away feeling better supported as a parent and more connected with your QAE community.
ParentNet meetings are led by trained parent volunteers, and a faculty member is on hand to field school-related questions or issues. Our first ParentNet meeting is Monday, October 5 from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm in the brick building. Our wonderful school counselor Julietta Skoog will lead a conversation about “Positive Discipline at QAE." It’s a super way to tap right into the heart and culture of our school, and explore the topic of discipline with other parents. WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING ABOUT PARENTNET: "It allows some time out of your busy schedule to talk about what's most important to you." "This is great for working parents. Thank you!" "It's like PEPS but geared for your older child." "ParentNet opens up great conversations. I appreciate being able to spend an evening with other first grade parents, connecting about issues that matter to us and our kids, and I go home feeling refreshed and ready to be the best parent I can be." "If your'e looking for connections, here you go!" Questions? Contact Jenny Brailey, ParentNet organizer, 206-795-4914 September Dates:
