Join us after drop-off on the first day! If you're dropping off your 1st-5th grader for the first day of school tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 5th) please join the PTSA for a casual reception in the John Marshall lunchroom after the second bell. Reconnect with good friends, make new ones and share your summer stories among smiling faces while enjoying bagels and coffee. Note: first day for Kindergartners is Monday, Sept. 10th. Look for details on a similar reception specifically for K parents! We'll be going back to school ... at our new home! Join us on Wednesday, August 29th, from 5-6pm for Back-to-School Night at John Marshall School. With this year's construction of the renovated Queen Anne campus, we'll be getting our first visit to QAE classrooms at John Marshall (520 NE Ravenna Blvd). Students and their families can learn their classroom assignments and meet their teachers and classmates prior to the first day of school. Plans are still being formulated, but keep an eye out for details about other ways we'll celebrate. Families can meet in the cafeteria at 5pm to see class lists, learn about the PTSA and QAE Spirit Wear, then tour the John Marshall building. Maps will be posted so families can find the location of their child’s classroom, the library and more. Classrooms are still under construction so doors will be closed as unpacking is in progress. Finding where the classrooms and lockers are is an important part of this event! From 5-5:20pm, a QAE staff member will be on each floor to help you find where things are. After touring, families are welcome to come through the building onto the enclosed playground to say hi to QAE staff, see where their child will line up each morning and check out our John Marshall playground. We look forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions, please contact the PTSA at communications@qaeptsa.org. QAE Staff and PTSA If you have a child entering Kindergarten at QAE this Fall, please consider attending Kindergarten Jump Start. Jump Start is a free, district-wide week-long experience for Kindergartners to learn about school. Children will become familiar with their new school building, staff, typical school day activities and practices.
The QAE edition is happening August 20-24th at John Marshall School, our home for the 2018-19 school year. Check out the Jump Start page for all the details. UPDATE: We've added a time and location for Sunday's playdate at John Marshall! So has summer been going by as fast for you as it has for us? Hard to believe school starts in about a month! We're starting to get back in the swing of things, including setting up some playdates for this month so that new QAE kindergarten families can get to know each other. It's not just for incoming kindergartners though -- any QAE family is welcome to attend! Please RSVP here to let us know you're coming. Here's a note from Reem Santrisi who is organizing the dates: ---- Welcome QAE Kindergarten Families! After seeing this film, you’ll never look at “school” the same way again. Following the screening, please join in a dialogue with leaders, educators, and students from Big Picture Learning Schools, High Tech High, Impact Public School, and others immersed in Project Based Learning about the changes that can and needs to occur in our educational system. Our Five Pillars:
If you haven't had a chance, please donate now! Your kids will get a few chances to flash their pearly whites on QAE Photo Day on Thursday, Sept. 22nd. A few details to help you prepare:
School Pictures Your student should have received a printed form to order photo packages from Yuen Lui on the first day of school. You can view a copy with the price list here. You have a couple options for payment: Pre-pay Online The easiest way to pay for pictures is to pre-pay online with a credit card. Go to the Yuen Lui Pre-pay for Picture Day site and enter your email address to get started. If you have more than one child, you'll have to go through the (quick) process again for each child. Then no need to worry about the form disappearing on the way to school! Return the Form You can fill out the form sent home on the first day of school or print out the PDF version here. You'll need to fill out one form for each student and include a check or exact cash with each form. Whole School Photo The tradition continues! Now that our students have settled into their routine and kindergartners have started, we'll take our annual whole school photo. We'll be taking all-school photos at 7:55am. Please plan on arriving at school by 7:45am so that we can get assembled and organized. We only have 15 minutes to take the all-school photos and don't want anyone to miss out! The first whole school photo will include parents. Then parents will step away and we'll take more photos with the students and staff. Afterwards teachers will lead students calmly into class. Thursday, September 22nd, will be photo day at Queen Anne Elementary. In addition to the regular student photos, we'll be taking the traditional whole school photo.
School Pictures Yuen Lui will be taking school photos again this year. You can view a PDF with the price list. Forms were sent home in the manila envelope on the first day of school. Please return photo forms as soon as possible. Whole School Photo Traditions are important, and they will continue to evolve with our ever-growing school population each year. This year, we didn’t have a whole school photo on the first day of school as we didn’t have our Kindergarten students with us and staff were concerned about gathering over 400 children and families together on the first day with many new students and many wee ones. So we'll be doing the whole class photo on the same day as school pictures. This will allow us to have all students present and have this be a calm experience for our Kindergarten and new students as they will be more familiar with teachers, classmates and routines. The school year is almost here! The QAE Back-to-School Night Open House is on Wednesday, August 31st from 5-7pm.
QAE students and their families can learn their classroom assignments and meet their teachers and classmates prior to the first day of school. Also, be sure to stop by the cafeteria to learn more about the PTSA, purchase QAE Spirit Wear, find out about volunteer opportunities, after-school enrichment programs and more! We'll also have a balloon artist, Neema's Comfort Food truck, and an ice cream truck hanging out in the play area starting at 6pm. Have dinner and dessert at Queen Anne! Please keep in mind:
We look forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions, please contact Lindsey Carrillo at lindsey.carrillo@outlook.com. QAE Staff and PTSA
Childcare will be available for Curriculum Night next week, Tuesday, September 23rd, in the cafeteria. It is open to children ages 4 and up, and who are potty trained. Suggested donation of $5 per child at time of drop off.
Please be sure to drop off and pick up in a timely manner to be fair to all families and staff. The signup link is below, you may select one or more sessions as necessary. Thanks, Gillian & Melanthia Parent Volunteer Coordinators |
