Program Manager, Debate Club
Successful Schools in Action, a nonprofit organization working with the seven Magnolia and Queen Anne public schools, has an opening for a Program Manager for our elementary Debate program. This part-time, contractual position will begin February 1, 2011 to administer the spring debate session, and pick up again in Sept. for the 2011-2012 Debate year. This position is responsible for all aspects involved in administering two, 12-week debate club sessions in four elementary schools.
Specific duties include: Assist with the recruitment, hiring, and training of debate coaches, manage all program PR, communications, student registration, help coaches as needed with topic research and curriculum, organize and run two culminating tournaments, conduct and analyze program assessments and help assess student outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have:
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Good interpersonal skills
•Strong organizational abilities – must be able to handle and track multiple tasks. A background in event planning and management a bonus.
•Experience with scheduling and managing data – a basic understanding of Excel and Word features a must, knowledge of databases a bonus
•An ability to work well independently, take initiative when appropriate, and be a team-player. Must be able to work from home.
•Public school familiarity and experience is required
SSIA will provide training. No prior knowledge of debate is required, although it is helpful.
The individual in this position reports to the SSIA Executive Director.
Hours: Flexible hours average 10/week depending on the session cycle
Preferred start date: February 1, 2011
Compensation: Monthly stipend DOE
