POSITION OPENING Instructional Assistant (IA) - Reading, 2011 Summer School Successful Schools in Action, a nonprofit organization working with the seven Magnolia and Queen Anne public schools, has an opening for a Reading Instructional Assistant (IA) for our elementary academic Summer School program. This part-time, hourly position will be located at Coe Elementary School and run from June 27, 2011 through July 15, 2011. (There will be no class Monday, July 4th) The program will enroll current 2nd and 3rd grade students who have been identified by their teachers as below grade level. The ideal candidate will have: •Experience as an instructional assistant or tutor in grades 1st through 3rd •Experience with early reading curricula and programs •An ability to work well independently, take initiative when appropriate, and be a team-player •Experience working in Seattle Public Schools •Passed a Washington State Patrol background check (Run by SSIA) Specific duties include: •Working directly with students in literacy support, as directed by teachers, in the classroom, 1-1 or with small groups •Playground duty during recess and assist during snack time •Assist Program Manager at the beginning and end of each session during arrival and pick-up •Facilitate communications as needed between the teachers and program manager The individual in this position reports to the SSIA Executive Director. This part-time, hourly position will begin June 27, 2011 and run through Jul 15, 2011. (There will be no class on July 4, 2011.) Our academic summer school program will be located at Coe Elementary School and is for students currently enrolled in 2nd and 3rd grade. The program is specifically for students identified by their teachers as not at grade level: Level 1 and level 2, below 50%tile in math and/or reading. Class sizes will be small in order to maximize individualized instruction in reading and math. The ideal candidate will have: •Certification as an elementary teacher and experience working in Seattle Public Schools •Instructional experience with Singapore Math or equivalent elementary math support curriculum, and/or: •Training in and experienced use of multisensory structured language approaches to reading •Experience teaching 1st through 3rd grade •The ability to be responsive to meeting individual students’ needs in a small classroom environment •Ideas for injecting some fun into an academic summer learning program •Strong management and communication skills, including experience teaming with and directing IAs and communicating with families Additional expectations: •Take daily attendance •Assist during recess and snack time •Administer any classroom-based assessments included as part of the summer school program The individual in this position reports to the SSIA Executive Director.
