The QAE Book Fair is next week! Here is what we need to get started:
May 20 - Friday, May 22, Portable Gym Wednesday, 5/20 | 9:00am - 4:30pm Thursday, 5/21 | 9:00am - 4:30pm Friday, 5/22 | 9:00am-10:00am Be sure to stop by and stock up on your summer reading! Book Fair proceeds will go toward building a stronger Teacher Book Room that will benefit ALL students, as well as supporting a new summer reading program for students in need. With your help, we can make this happen! Thank you for all that you do both at school, and at home, and WE'LL SEE YOU AT THE BOOK FAIR!! - Ms. Cooper, Ms. Francisco, and Ms. Leland There will be banh mi sandwiches, drinks, and lots of baked goods for sale, so please come prepared to eat and enjoy the show. In addition, there will be a raffle for several exciting prizes like Mariners tickets and an Xbox! Every dollar spent will go towards funding our 5th grade trip to Islandwood.

by Meg Ferris, SEL David Elliott recently recommended a column by David Brooks, columnist for the New York Times, about parents, love and merit. While I admire Brooks, and enjoyed “Love & Merit,” I was surprised to realize it was not exactly helpful to me as a parent. Brooks speaks to the dangers of conditioned love, which is an important warning. He describes well what meritocratic love can look like and why it is corrosive. Seattle Parks and Recreation The City of Seattle is providing free supervised drop-in activities at 21 community centers for children in kindergarten through 8th grade on May 19. The activities will be available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Registration is available at the community centers and online at www.seattle.gov/parks. Childcare is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register early to reserve a spot. Reserve a spot online or at a community center. A completed registration form is required to attend. Child Care Resources
Child Care Resources, an organization dedicated to providing child care information and referrals to families, is available to help families identify a child care option for May 19. Families seeking assistance in finding childcare can call Child Care Resources at 206-329-5544 or visit their website at www.childcare.org. Please visit Seattle Public Schools or Seattle Education Association for any further details relating to the May 19 walk out. The QAE PBL Showcase is coming up on the evening of Thursday, June 4th. Students are very excited to show their hard work to families and friends! Be sure to save the date.

Register on the playground today (5/14) or next Thursday (5/21) at 3:30pm. You can also register online at: http://ofitgym.com/fit-for-life-5-10k-run-walk. Please take part in this community building event that benefits all Queen Anne Public Schools. All skill levels welcome. The route is set along Myrtle Edwards Park which offers beautiful views and a flat course. Excellent for both runners and walkers. Please contact Lee Scovern at 206-910-7272 for any questions or to volunteer. All before and after school programs scheduled for Tuesday, May 19 are canceled. Robotics, Drama, Creating Coding, and Chess are rescheduled for June 2nd, and Language classes are rescheduled for June 11.

EXTRA AUDITION ADDED FOR THE QAE TALENT SHOW!
Due to high demand, the 4th graders have added an additional audition to the lineup to prepare for the QAE Talent show next Thursday, May 14. The final audition will be held next Tuesday, May 12 at 4 pm in the covered gym. The Talent Show is meant to be a FUN event, with no judges or winners. The purpose of the auditions is solely so that we can prepare a cue of acts (along with requested musical accompaniments) for the Talent Show; acts do NOT need to be perfect, nor will they be judged (either at auditions or at the Talent Show itself). Every performer is a winner! Please note the following as you are planning your acts:
