With Jogathon fast approaching (October 9) and Seattle Kid's Marathon next month, it's time to get in shape! QAE's Weekend Running Club will be starting Sunday, October 4th, at 10:00 AM out on the playground.
Please note, this is not a drop off activity. Feel free to help pass out sticks, count and record laps! Or just relax on a lovely orange bench and enjoy the day. The first ParentNet meeting of the year is next week, Monday, October 5 from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm in the brick building. Our wonderful school counselor Julietta Skoog will lead a conversation about “Positive Discipline at QAE." It’s a super way to tap right into the heart and culture of our school, and explore the topic of discipline with other parents.
If you cannot make it next week, no fear, another meeting is scheduled for next month, Wednesday, November 4. Questions? Contact Jenny Brailey, ParentNet organizer, 206-795-4914 This year's election date is November 3rd, 2015. Odd year elections mean lots of local issues and candidates on the ballot. To help you prepare and inform your choice, we'd like to tell you about some issues and elected offices you'll be voting on and some ways to learn more.
One issue is a King County measure called "Best Starts for Kids", a six-year levy funding programs to improve the well-being of children, youth, families and communities. The League of Women Voters is holding a forum on this issue and other local measures on Monday, October 5th from 7 to 9PM at the Mt. Baker Community Club, 2811 Mt Rainier Dr S. in Seattle. No RSVP is required. We will provide more information on this measure as the election approaches. Also up for election are four of the seven Seattle School Board positions. The District continues to grow, and the elected School Board positions oversee District operations and decide on many aspects of District funding, making them critical to what happens in our District. There is also a League of Women Voters forum with the School Board candidates on Thursday October 8th from 7 to 8:30PM at Seattle First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard Ave. RSVP's are not required. We will also provide more information on the candidates in these races closer to the election. Thank you Susan Lusty & Ian Stewart QAE PTSA Legislative Directors The following makeup days for a revised school calendar have now been finalized with our SEA partners, pending approval by the Board of Directors on October 7. Please mark your home and school calendars accordingly.
School Year Calendar Changes
State law requires school districts conduct a school year of no less than 180 school days in such grades as are conducted by the school district, and 180 half-days of instruction, or the equivalent, in kindergarten. The district and its partners needed to meet that requirement and looked for the best options for adjusting the calendar that works for families. Dates are subject to change, please check the QAE Calendar often for updates.
