But here's some information about subjects we get a lot of questions about: lunch + recess!
SNACKS & RECESS Explorers want to eat and then go play! Please pack a small, healthy, easy-to-eat snack that can be eaten in a few bites (ex. apple slices, a cookie, carrot sticks).
Recess snacks are eaten between 9am - 10am, and lunch is eaten in grade groups. Snacks are eaten outside before recess. Students may slip off their masks while they quickly eat. Students are 3 ft. distanced around our large courtyard Playground supervisors are onsite for recesses and lunches.
LUNCH Lunches are eaten in the cafeteria and Chill Zone (our cafeteria extension that's adjacent to the cafeteria and connected by a doorway. It's also fully supervised). 4th & 5th grade: 10am - 10:20 play outside | lunch 10:20 - 10:40 2nd & 3rd grade: 10:25 - 10:45 play outside | lunnch 10:50 - 11:10 K & 1st grade: 10:50 - 11:10 play outside | lunch 11:15 - 11:40
‘Pack it in, Pack it out’ Lunch Policy: Students who bring lunch from home will put all lunch waste back into their lunch bag when they're finished. By doing this, we:
Give children the opportunity to be helpful and responsible as they take care of their lunch waste at home each day.
Teach children the importance of composting and recycling.
Reduce the need to congregate around garbage cans.
Reduce food waste, as students can eat unfinished lunches after school.
Increase parental awareness of what is actually being eaten.
OTHER THINGS THAT ARE HELPFUL TO KNOW District staff assessed every school to determine QAE’s Cafeteria and Chill Zone capacity so students maintain 3 ft. physical distance during lunch.Lunch will be a calm, fairly quiet experience, as students will need to remove masks in between bites and sips.
Students will continue to have the option to bring their own lunch or get lunch at school.
More details to follow on SPS lunches.
Kindergarten and 1st graders will eat outside whenever weather permits. Indoor spaces are available whenever needed. Please pack a jacket with hood and weather-appropriate footwear.
