Welcome to the 2018-19 School Year!

We know that start of school is a busy time with a fair share of information overload. We've put together a single form where you can pay your student's fees and fill in your directory information. You can also join the PTSA or share your volunteer interests.

Please take a few minutes to complete the QAE Back-to-School Form. It only needs to be done once per family. Please complete the form by Friday, September 14th. Questions? Contact the PTSA at communications@qaeptsa.org

Here's some more details what's included on the form:

Student Directory Information
We'll ask for parent names and contact information. The QAE PTSA uses email addresses collected on this form to build the lists for the classroom coordinator emails as well as teacher, specialist, school and PTSA announcements, including our weekly newsletter, The Rocket Reader.

To protect your privacy, the school and PTSA maintain separate databases. As such, the PTSA does not have access to the information you provide to Seattle Public Schools. To be included in the directory (all school or classroom only), you must complete and submit the online form.

The information in the directory will be shared exclusively within the school community, and commercial use of the information is strictly prohibited.

Pay Your Student Fees
The total is $150 per student. For the convenience of our families, the PTSA collects this money for the school and passes along the funds.

At the beginning of each school year, instead of giving families a supply list to fulfill, our teachers ask for a $50 classroom supplies fee to allow our teachers to buy appropriate classroom supplies throughout the year, as they need them.

In addition to the classroom supply fee, there is a $100 technology fee to cover the cost of the QAE One to the World Student Device Program.

To inquire about a Student Fee Scholarship, read the FAQ or speak with Principal Roy.
No QAE student shall be denied access to iPads due to an inability to pay technology fees.  If financial assistance is needed, please contact Ms. Roy by phone (206-252-2480) or email (jbroy@seattleschools.org) with full confidentiality guaranteed.

Join the PTSA
Any parent can join the PTSA! Why:

Benefits the school - The QAE PTSA provides funds and volunteer support for staff, curriculum, classroom, school communications, community events, field trips, yearbooks, summer playdates, and much more. See the PTSA page to learn more.
Benefits your family - PTSA membership gives you:
  • a voice and a vote in QAE PTSA business at general membership meetings (i.e. the budget and officer elections)
  • local discounts for Great Wolf Lodge, Washington State Fair, Key Arena & McCaw Hall and more!
  • national discounts

Let Us Know if You'd Like to Volunteer
Volunteers are vital to the success of QAE. We couldn't do it without you! There are opportunities for parents with a variety of schedules--even if you work full-time, there are plenty ways to lend a hand.

How can I make sure I hear about what's going on at QAE?
There are a number of ways to keep up with what's happening at the school and in the classroom:
  • Orange folders - teachers use these to send forms, student work and other physical objects back home.
  • QAE SPS site and emails - Principal Roy manages the official SPS QAE site that has news, events and other resources. The school district is also expanding their Messenger tool to send emails and automated phone calls with important updates.
  • QAE PTSA website and emails - the PTSA maintains this website as an additional source of communication for families. Check the Rocket Reader blog for regularly updated news. The Rocket Reader is also sent out regularly as an email newsletter and we also send occasional one-off email updates.
  • Social media - the PTSA posts regular updates and events on the QAE PTSA Facebook page. There's also a community-driven QAE Community Discussions page. You can also follow QAE PTSA on Twitter.
  • Emails from teachers and classroom coordinators - your teacher will likely send out occasional emails and the parent classroom coordinator will also send out regular updates. Coordinators use the emails provided by the PTSA.
When will after school clubs and other activities start?
As we return to school the enrichment schedule is being finalized. With our location at John Marshall, we will have a more limited set of enrichment opportunities. See the Enrichment page for the latest details.

Where can I get information about the renovation of QAE on Boston St?
The PTSA maintains a Building Renovation page with details about the project. We'll add photos of the progress when we can!

Can I get QAE clothes for myself or my family?
Yes! QAE Spirit Wear will be sold at the school during some larger events. It can also be ordered online on the Spirit Wear site. In the order notes in checkout, please include your child's first and last name, your child teacher and your name/email. Your items will be delivered to your child's classroom.

Seattle Public School Welcome Packet and Resources

On the first day of school, your child will receive a SPS Welcome Packet with forms (FERPA, Media Release, Medicine, Health, etc.) that will need to be filled in and returned to the school. New this year: in order to save time, money and trees, SPS is asking that we simply link to documents and resources that don't have to be signed and returned.

Browse through the resources below or head to the main SPS site for the mother lode (and translations of many of the pages).
