District Enrollment Dates & Deadlines
Have an incoming kindergartener or are you new to Seattle Public Schools? Follow the two steps below. If you already have a student in SPS, but would like to move to Queen Anne Elementary, start with step 2.
Step 1: New Student Registration for the 2021-22 School Year Begins Jan. 3rd, 2022 New Student Registration is a general enrollment process. See the SPS Registration site for information on registering. If your neighborhood school is your first choice, your registration is complete.
Step 2: Open Enrollment for School Choice is Feb. 1st-28th, 2022 If you're interested in having your child attend Queen Anne Elementary, the next step is to submit that choice during the Open Enrollment period. See the SPS School Choice and Open Enrollment page for details.
The district will continue to accept school choice applications up until May 31st. Any enrollment forms received by Feb. 28th are treated the same. Forms received after Feb. 28th aren't given any tiebreaker priorities, making it less likely that you'll get into QAE or another option school.
Sibling Reminder: If you have a student currently enrolled at Queen Anne Elementary and plan to send your other child/ren to QAE, you must complete the Open Enrollment for the incoming sibling(s).
Important Dates:
Jan. 3, 2022: Online Registration begins for the 2021-2022 school year
Feb. 1, 2022: Open Enrollment Begins; Choice forms available
Feb. 28, 2022: Open Enrollment Ends (on time applications)
May 31, 2022: School Choice Window Closes
Even if you don't get in to QAE when the results are released, stay on the wait list and keep in touch with the district. Spots continue to open in the Spring and Summer as families move.
Selection Process and Tie-Breakers: The school district reviews all school choice forms submitted by the deadline and attempts to match students with their top choice. In the event, that there are more students than there are spots available, enrollment is determined by a series of tie-breakers. The are, in order:
Sibling - if the incoming student has a sibling who already attends QAE
Geographic Zone - if the incoming student lives within the QAE Geo Zone
Lottery - random selection from all remaining incoming students
If your student is initially on the waiting list when assignments are available, they may eventually get a spot at QAE as other students decide on other schools or move out of the area (no guarantees though)!
