Theme
In light of recent events and calls for action in Hollywood for inclusion and diversity, and in line with our school's values on the same, we've decided to move away from the old Hollywood theme which was chosen only to evoke an idea for dressing up. Instead, we will celebrate our community and support our PTSA as they continue to fund the fantastic programs and staff that make our school so great. Cocktail attire encouraged.

Special Election February 9

1/28/2016

Seattle Public Schools is submitting two school levies to Seattle voters for renewal in the Special Election on February 9, 2016:

Operations Levy and the Buildings
The Operations Levy replaces the expiring operations levy and provides about 25 percent of funding for day-to-day educational programs and services not fully funded by the state of Washington. The operations levy pays for a portion of teacher, instructional assistant and support staff salaries, as well as textbooks, classroom supplies, safety and building security, bilingual and special educational services, professional development and training, bus transportation, student activities such as athletics, music, arts, extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.

Technology and Academics IV (BTA IV) Capital Levy
The BTA IV Capital Levy replaces the expiring BTA III Capital Levy and renews our commitment to providing safe, quality schools.
  • Buildings: to address growing enrollment, we will open 3 school buildings, and create basic health and safety improvements, including; earthquake safety, fire alarm, fire suppression, intercom, roof replacements, energy-efficient projects and HVAC, electrical, plumbing and mechanical upgrades; windows and doors replacements and exterior repairs.
  • Technology: we will meet critical needs to provide modern day technology equipment, instructional tools and training for all schools and will provide direct support for students and teachers.
  • Academics/Athletics: we will provide support for Special Education and Early Learning improvements, adding science and computer labs to meet the new 24 credit graduation requirements, student assessment, program placement, and athletic fields and lighting upgrades.

More information may be found on the SPS website at: www.seattleschools.org/levies2016.

Parent Ed Night - Tuesday, January 26 at 6:30pm

1/21/2016

Expert on gender diversity, Aidan Key, will lead a dynamic discussion to help parents understand gender nonconformity and transgender identification in kids. He will also address ways to discuss these topics with kids, benefits experienced by children in relation to these topics. This frank and open discussion will leave plenty of room for questions, including ones about bathroom sharing, sleepovers, faith, etc. Please join us for this very special event, for parents to broaden their education on these issues, learn how we can support others, and walk away with the message that is beneficial to everyone - how we can fully embrace and love our kids for who they are.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email QAE Social Emotional Learning Committee Parent Education Event Coordinator, Jaime Drozd Allen at
jaimedallen@gmail.com.

Please Complete the District Hiring Survey - It Closes Today!

1/14/2016

The District needs to hear your priorities and needs for QAEs next principal. The hiring team wants to know your thoughts on what values and attributes our next principal should embody,  and what questions you want asked during interviews. Voice your opinions by completing two surveys:

  1. Take the 2-question District survey. This survey will be the only documented record of what the community is looking for in QAEs next principal. It closes Thursday, January 14. surveymonkey.com/r/QAE-Families
  2. Take the PTSA Principal Hiring Survey. This survey has some similar questions, but it directly lets the QAE hiring committee (parents and staff) know what you'd like them to be looking for and what specific questions you'd like to see asked of candidates. surveymonkey.com/r/7RVS9M8

Thank you,
