In an earlier news post, we shared parent Suzi LeVine’s summary of a workshop Queen Anne Elementary staff participated in with educational consultant Bruce Dixon. As a consequence of this workshop, the staff is developing the philosophical foundations for this exciting new school.
As you might imagine, completing this foundational work will necessarily involve you: the parents and students of our community. Stay tuned to hear more about when and where this will happen. In the meantime, the staff members are eager to share their Five Pillars of Queen Anne Elementary. Five Pillars We are self-directed learners We encourage each other to think critically and learn more We are concerned, confident and compassionate citizens of the world We learn everywhere, we learn together We are creative The Queen Anne Elementary PTSA will be chartered – with your help – on Tuesday, August 10th. The official meeting will begin at 7pm and end by 8pm, but join us at 6:30 to socialize. The location will be announced once we have a final count of attendees. Please RSVP here if you haven't already. We need at least 25 individuals to become members and pay dues to charter our group. Childcare will be available.
The Seattle Public Schools Transportation Department is ready to receive your requests for bus service to and from childcare centers for before and after school care. Please call 206-252-0900 and ask to speak to the Queen Anne Elementary Transportation Specialist. Transportation asks that you “be sure to have childcare address information and if possible student ID numbers (look on the letter that confirmed your student’s assignment to Queen Anne Elementary) on hand when you call to expedite the process. It is also necessary to specify AM, PM or both for childcare stops.” All Queen Anne Elementary students living within the McClure service area are eligible for busing. If you live outside this area, you may still be able to get your child on a bus if you are using a childcare center within the McClure or Hamilton draw areas for before and after school care.

Please let us know that you will be attending by registering here at your earliest convenience. If you have an interest in a leadership role, please contact [email protected] prior to July 27. Please include a bio, your area of interest, and relevant experience. Nominees will be presented for President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary at the charter meeting. Design team members will be serving as the nominating committee. Terms for elected officers are one year, with a preference for two consecutive terms. Visit the PTSA section on our website to learn more about various positions and commitments. Check back at the PTSA section on our website as it is updated with standing rules, officer nominees and committees. Our first summer playdate was a success! We are grateful to Successful Schools in Action (SSIA), McClure PTSA, Coe PTA, Blaine PTA and Lawton PTA for their recent gifts in support of Queen Anne Elementary. These gifts demonstrate a wonderful sense of altruism within our schools cluster, and we are pleased to be part of it. We will put these funds to use in our efforts to start Queen Anne Elementary off on firm footing. Private support from parents and community organizations is essential to providing enrichment programs in our schools.
