QAE Jog-a-thon 2015-2016 is Friday, October 9th! Our only kid-powered fundraising event for the year is here! Please help us make it a success! Here’s how it works:

Enrolling in an Enrichment Program at QAE is simpler than ever before! We have an online registration system that allows you to sign up and pay directly from our website: qaeptsa.org/enrichment. Pay for a single class, multiple classes for one child, or multiple classes for multiple children all at the same location. Phew! No more checks! Unless you want to. We'll take your check. We mean it: sign up through the above link and pay by leaving a check in the office. Interested in an enrichment program but need a scholarship? All programs offer needs-based financial aid. Please email [email protected] to secure a scholarship to any class for your child. But don't hesitate: registration closes on Monday, September 28th! Register today! Hey, you've made it this far...wanna volunteer? All after school programs this year will feature All-Clubs Recess. All students will check-in with a playground volunteer right after school and then have a full 20-minutes to shake off the school day and play before clubs begin. We need you to make this work! If you are a parent who is typically on the playground after school, please let us know if you would be willing to take attendance for clubs. It's easy: wear a safety vest and carry a clipboard! Picture Day is Thursday, October 1. Individual and Classroom Group photos will be taken next Thursday, 10/1. All students will have their photos taken for the yearbook, and for the Seattle Public Schools database. Students who are absent on Thursday, 10/1 will have their individual photos taken on Retake Day, 11/5.

Kindly return your picture order form (for both check and credit card payments) to your child's teacher on or before Thursday, October 1. Thank you, QAE PTSA Yearbook Team Applications for Advanced Learning are now available, and are due on October 8, 2015. Students grades K-8 can apply for the Fall/Winter Testing Session 2015-16 to determine eligibility for school year 2016-17.

In February 2016, Seattle voters will be asked to preserve funding for our 53,000 Seattle Public Schools students and their 97 schools. SPS is hosting five community meetings to share information about the upcoming Operations Levy and our Buildings, Technology, Academics/Athletics IV (BTA IV) Capital Levy which will be submitted to Seattle voters in February 2016.

SPS is holding a series of community meetings to share information about changing bell times and seek community input before making its recommendation to the School Board. Meetings will be held at community locations in several different regions over the next month. See the SPS website for more details and exact dates, times and locations of the meetings.

Sweet Pea Cottage of the Arts, a preschool with deep community roots and a long history on QA, has opened a new aftercare program for elementary age kids called Sweet Pea Nation. The school is located on 1st West and Crockett Street (near the Safeway). Teachers will meet children everyday after school and walk them down Howe Street, to 1st West. The program runs from 3:40-5:30 pm.
Families may choose between two tracks: Science & Nature or Theater & Arts. All children will spend time outdoors, a healthy snack, have 1/2 of homework time, and free choice time. John Hay Elementary School is holding its annual Community Carnival on Friday, September 25th from 4 pm – 7 pm. We would like to invite our fellow schools and the community to join us! This event is not a fundraising event, but a Carnival to bring the Queen Anne Kids and community together with fun carnival games, music, food trucks and more. Please note, tickets will be sold at $1 each to cover general costs (such as rental fees, space, and prizes).
In addition, we are also looking for middle and/or high school students who can volunteer their time running the games. Parent Safety Patrol Monitors Joe Bailey-Fogarty, QAE 4th Grade Teacher, is looking for Parent Safety Patrol Monitors for the first two weeks of school to help our 5th / 4th grade student crossing guards. If you are available for a morning (9-9:30am) or afternoon (3:35-3:55pm) shift, please email Joe Bailey-Fogarty.
