Last night the Seattle School Board selected the new math curriculum for Seattle K-5 schools. After public testimony and a "robust" discussion among the board and SPS staff, Math in Focus (Singapore Math) was adopted in a 4-3 school board vote. The dual curriculum adoption was withdrawn early in the meeting by Director Peters and McLaren and replaced by an amendment for the single adoption of Math in Focus. SPS posted the announcement here with further links to the math adoption process and the school board discussion on SPS TV. Many thanks to the QAE parents and community who contacted SPS and/or the school board concerning the math selection. Angie Masco Legislative Co-Chair, QAE PTSA Please forgive the delay, there was a mix-up at the printer, but we are so thankful they have finally arrived.
If you placed an order at the auction or online, look for them to come home with your child on Wednesday. If you have not ordered one but would like to, they are still for sale! A few hardback copies are available for $100 and softbound for $35. A copy is on display in the office if you are curious and want to see it first. Checks can be made out to the PTSA and brought into office and placed in the cookbook envelope. Thanks again for your support! Please email Anne Marie Canlis at [email protected] with any questions. While the PTSA generously offered to cover any shortages, both parents and students felt the earning our way was important.
We would like to thank you all for helping us reach that goal this year. Through bake sales, talent shows, product sales and more, this 4th grade class has learned to work together and make realistic goals. We are an amazing team, but really have to thank the broader QAE community for your generosity. We earned our way to Islandwood on Sept.8th! With gratitude and appreciation, QAE 4th Grade Students and Parents These two super fun events were originally offered at the auction, but are still available for sign up!
