QAE library is ready and open for business! Many students already know how to put books on hold, but in case they don’t, Queen Anne Explorers should be able to go to the Queen Anne Library Catalog (called Destiny Discover) and select books for remote checkout to be picked up at school October 16th and 19th. The following document and video will show families and students how to put a hold on books at the library using their district iPads and laptops.
Be sure to select Queen Anne Elementary as your library when you are on the Follett sign in page. Students will be able to put up to 5 books on hold. Place your holds no later than Wednesday October 14th at 3pm.
We can't be together right now, but Dr. V would love to get new books into the hands of students and families! We know these are tough times for many families, but Dr. V has put together a great list of books (and some crafting kits).
Dr. V's list includes some great books for every grade level. Secret Garden Books will donate 10% of the the purchase price of books on the list to the QAE Library. How the Book Fair works:
Questions? Please contact Dr. V at [email protected] or Secret Garden Books at 206-789-5006. Dr. Emily Valdez, our wonderful librarian, wanted us to share a message with QAE parents:
The PTSA has been SO supportive of our library and our school community, but I was wondering if you’d get the word out that there are a variety of ways that parents can help our library. This list is generated from student requests and from recommendations from school and public librarians. I am blown away by the enthusiasm for reading that I see every day from our Queen Anne students and I just can’t seem to keep enough books on the shelves for their voracious appetites. In addition, if you wouldn’t mind adding a call for donated books if families are doing some spring cleaning of their home libraries. I’ve placed a bin for book donations in the foyer of the brick building. Here's the link to the Amazon wish list for the QAE Library... Did you know you have also support the QAE PTSA when you should on Amazon by using the Smile program and, especially, by starting searches on our website. See the details here... Corinna Luyken grew up in different cities along the West Coast, and after studying at Middlebury College, she settled in Washington State, where she draws inspiration from nature, her family, and the human form. Her debut picture book, The Book of Mistakes, received four starred reviews and has been praised by Entertainment Weekly, The Wall Street Journal, Nerdy Book Club, and more. Her newest book is My Heart. Corinna Luyken will be at school on Friday, 29 March to talk to us about writing books and how she does it, to tell us where she gets her inspiration, and to answer our millions of questions! Books will be available for purchase at the event, so that your child can get a signed keepsake, personalized by the author. Prices below include tax. Please make checks payable to Secret Garden. Download the form below. For more information, see Corinna Luyken’s website
"We called ourselves the Explorers and we knew we wanted our kids to learn differently." - Mr. Jeffery
In exchange for receiving a very significant discount when we purchased new cases for our school's iPads, the company that makes the cases produced a video about how our students use our iPads to learn and explore. It really captures part of what makes QAE so special! Derek Munson, children's author and Young Author's Day's special guest, will be at QAE again this Friday, May 11, with signed copies of his book, Enemy Pie.
Get your signed copy by printing and completing the order form located here (ignore the due date specified on the form), then send it back with your payment no later than Thurs, May 10. Please be sure to send it back in your student's orange folder no later than Thurs. May 10 (that's right - this week!), so we can make sure there are enough books on Friday. Mr. Riley has sent us a note about his excitement for the coming school year and about some fun projects available to help make our school library more vibrant and useable. Take a look at his message and the list of projects here.
