Accessible Educational Resources Portal

3/31/2016

Seattle Public Schools is pleased to announce the launch of its Accessible Educational Resources Portal.

The portal is linked from every Seattle Public Schools website, including the district and school sites, on the bottom of every page with the link titled "Non-Discrimination Statement."

The portal supports our efforts to provide equal access. The portal is in support of the district's ongoing commitment to ensuring that communications for district sponsored programs, events and activities are accessible to district students, staff, families and community members with disabilities.

The portal provides many valuable resources including information about accessible technology and resources to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to access website content, software and equipment.

The portal includes:
  • Steps about how to request an accessibility review if you are unable to access content on the district’s website
  • Information about the accessibility of content or technology used by the district
  • The ability to report barriers to accessing any technology used by Seattle Public Schools

SPS News Brief

3/24/2016

Bell Time Implementation Task Force online survey is now available.
Closes Wednesday, April 13
The district wants your input related to the transition to the new bell times. The survey will focus on three topics important to a successful transition to the newly adopted bell times:
  • Nutrition services (breakfast and lunch)
  • Before and after school programs
  • Athletics
Input into this decision making process is invaluable to the task force and the district, helping inform community wide conversations this spring to maximize support to our families. For additional information about the bell time analysis, please visit the bell time analysis webpage.

Boundary Change Community Meetings
As part of the growth boundaries approved in 2013, there will be boundary changes for 18 attendance area elementary and nine middle schools (including McClure) in Fall 2017.

SPS Board approves expansion of Preschool and Accepts State Kindergarten Fee Subsidy
The Board recently voted to approve the expansion of Seattle Preschool Program classrooms. In addition, they agreed to accept state subsidy for full day kindergarten in all of the district's elementary and K-8 schools.
Beginning in the 2016-17 school year, families will no longer pay tuition for a full 6-hour day of kindergarten.

Family Survey Scheduled for April

The annual Seattle Public School Family Survey is scheduled to be distributed the week of April 18. The Family Survey provides an important opportunity to reflect on your child’s school and the district.
