"Sensory Integration Disorder isn't well known or understood by most parents. All of our senses (sight, taste, touch, hearing, smell, balance, and motion) take in information from our environment and that data goes to different parts of the brain for processing. Each sense is processed in different parts of the brain, and some senses are processed in multiple parts of the brain. It is quite complicated, yes?" Read more.... Ms. Stone is running a Donors Choose Project to purchase a class set of headphones so students can create their own compositions on GarageBand! How cool is that!?
Below is a description of Ms. Stone's project. Please help out if you can—your $10 donation can turn into a $20 donation for the next few days--be sure to enter SPARK in the "promo or gift code" field and click "apply" to ensure that your donation is doubled. What if you could compose an entire musical piece, not with a symphony at your service, but a single device? Our students are becoming budding composers. They are creative, passionate and have a lot of musical things to say! They are enjoying learning about the blues, about classical composers and modern music makers. They are passionate about becoming self-directed learners who can utilize modern technology to become 21st Century composers. With these headphones, instead of relying on selective hearing to compose their pieces on GarageBand, they will be able to really listen and hear well their own pieces. As we are working through our various units, it will enhance our entire school's listening abilities - to analyze, create and respond to music. We will have a full music "studio" at our fingertips with a class set of headphones. All students at our school would be able to become emerging recording artists, studio engineers, music appreciators, and composers! Ms. Stone's Donors Choose Project Open Enrollment for School Choice is happening now. You can find enrollment forms and more information about the enrollment process at SPS-Open Enrollment for School Choice.
Sibling Reminder: If you have a student currently enrolled at Queen Anne Elementary and plan to send your other child/ren to QAE, you must complete the SPS - Open Enrollment for School Choice Application for the incoming sibling(s). March 6, 2015 - School Choice Application Deadline | Open Enrollment Closes SPS Enrollment & Admission Information Dear QAE Community:
For families who attended our 2/4 PTSA General Membership meeting, the 2/12 Kids Co Child Care meeting, or have been following news related to Facilities on our website and/or the Rocket Reader newsletter, we had the first of what will be many meetings with the Seattle Public Schools Capital Planning team yesterday, 2/17. The Director of Capital Projects and Planning and a team of seven other Capital Projects and Facilities members toured QAE and sat down with us to discuss the plans outlined in the BEX IV funded QAE Addition. We were asked thoughtful questions from the SPS team and given a chance to walk through our facilities needs and how we can best support students and staff and the community with this capital project. Here are the key points:
Adding additional space that supports our school, preserves childcare, and reflects our learning environment is an important focus for us. Support from our parent community will be critical to meeting facility needs and supporting families who rely on childcare. SPS and the Capital Planning Department expressed an openness to consider QAE-driven options. The QAE staff, along with the QAE PTSA, is working together to make sure that the needs of everyone in our community are heard. If you would like to send questions, comments, or volunteer for our facilities related efforts, please do so here. We will continue to keep our QAE families informed during this process. Sincerely, David Elliott, Principal Queen Anne Elementary Amy Janas, President Queen Anne Elementary PTSA Technology Vision "Town Hall" Meetings begin next week. Seattle Public Schools wants to give everyone an opportunity to provide feedback and input into the district's Technology Vision process. To accomplish this we are scheduling five “Town Hall” meetings around the district. One in each of the five major regions. The schedule is as follows:
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. so that attendees can browse sample results from the Tech Summit. The structured meeting will begin at 6 to 8 p.m. The more input we have from across the district, the more we can assure that we have a vision that meets the needs of all Seattle Public Schools students. Supervised children's activities will be provided. Translation services available. Interested individuals who are unable to attend any of the Town Hall meetings are encouraged to submit their vision, ideas, and comments to [email protected] Most Session Two Enrichment Programs opened this week (language starts next week and Robotics begins the week of February 23). Please check the Enrichment Calendar for dates and locations (note: Spanish Intermediate meets on T/TH/F in a different classroom each day). If you have any questions about program dates, locations, etc., please contact the enrichment program coordinator or the program providers. Please do not contact the school office.
