SAVE THE DATE - Queen Anne Elementary Family Meet and Greet will take place on Saturday, June 5th at 9:00am at the Coe Elementary School gymnasium. This gathering will be open to all currently enrolled families as well as families with an interest in enrolling for the coming school year or the 2011-2012 academic year. Bring the kids and let them meet their fellow students. David Elliott will provide an update on our progress, introduce our new teachers, and talk about our plans and needs for over the summer. This will be a great opportunity to ask questions and meet others. An email invitation has been sent but let us know if you are already enrolled and don't receive one. Parents who have not enrolled children at Queen Anne Elementary, but would like to stay apprised of our progress should join our mailing list or subscribe to our RSS feed to get the latest QAE News. Please RSVP at http://eepurl.com/Aip5
Final interviews for teachers and other staff are underway! We anticipate announcing our teachers the first week of June.
More news about after school care! Coe Boys & Girls Club has set aside a limited number of spots for after school care duringjust for Queen Anne Elementary students. Coe Club Director, Doug Chidgey, says parents can access information at www.coeclub.org to learn about the program and download the necessary forms in order to enroll. If you have questions about the program, please call (206) 281-9197. Families in the Queen Anne/Magnolia cluster are eligible for transportation and can have their children bused from QAE to Coe Boys & Girls Club after school.
You may still enroll your child in Queen Anne Elementary School for the 2010-2011 school year. Spots are available at all grade levels of this new technology-focused K-5 elementary school. To enroll, please submit the forms for the grade your child will enter in the fall of 2010 at this page on the Seattle Public Schools website. While enrollment at existing Seattle Public Schools is now closed, new schools, like Queen Anne Elementary, can continue to receive new applicants. Queen Anne Elementary is an Option School, which means that students can apply from any neighborhood in the City.
Great news! After school care is available to Queen Anne Elementary School students at Hilltop Children's Center for the 2010-2011 school year. Hilltop runs a Reggio Emilia-inspired after school program at 4 Nickerson Street. It has low student-teacher ratios, an art studio and wonderfully creative staff. The Big Kids program is dedicated to school-age children, and offers care during school vacations. Hilltop Executive Director Meg McNulty extends a warm welcome to Queen Anne Elementary School parents looking for after school care starting this fall. For more information about the program and to enroll your child, please contact the Center at 283-3100. Queen Anne Elementary students from the Queen Anne/Magnolia cluster will be eligible for busing, and can be bused to Hilltop after school. Depending upon interest, a before school care program may also be available.

Enrollment numbers for Queen Anne Elementary are now available at this link - http://bit.ly/cs501L.
These numbers will change as parents enroll their children over the coming weeks. At this time, based on these preliminary numbers, QAE will be hiring one kindergarten, one 1st/2nd grade, and one 3rd/4th/5th grade classroom teacher. In addition, we will be hiring a PE teacher, Special Ed and Librarian/Technology Coach - all of which will be required to hold various teaching credentials as we anticipate folding them into the curriculum. Jobs at QAE and other new schools have been posted one week earlier than other positions in the district; thus giving us a head start on hiring. However, there are a number of open positions in the district and hiring will be competitive. As our enrollment continues to increase, the district will continue to evaluate the need for additional teachers and additional hiring will take place. The sooner we have a final picture on the number of students, the better prepared we will be for the coming year. If you or anyone you know is interested in Queen Anne Elementary, please enroll sooner rather than later! Check out the unique qualifications of a QAE teacher, and see the live job postings in the Seattle Public Schools internal job listings.
