As part of the Seattle Public Schools Bell Time Analysis, a survey is now available until May 10 for all parents, staff and members of the community to collect their input on possible bell time changes for schools. The District would like your input because a change in the start and end time for a school day has the potential to affect the entire community.
Visit belltimes.www.seattleschools.org to take the survey in one of ten available languages. Do you have a child entering McClure next year or an older child already there?
McClure Middle School's PTSA is looking for a treasurer. Being treasurer is a great way to be involved in the school if you can't be there during school hours. Just a few hours a month of your time can make a world of difference. This role would ideally suit someone who has a background in finance and is familiar with profit and loss and balance sheets. QuickBooks knowledge would be a bonus, as would non-profit accounting. Plus you get to work with our lovely PTSA people! If this is something you are interested in please either email us at [email protected] or give me a call on 425 301 0576 and we can talk further. Thank you! Our teachers have had a lot of success this year with Zones of Regulation, which teaches kids that everyone can use tools to calm down or rev up. The SEL committee has made toolkits of basic items for every classroom, with items such as fidget tools, mandalas pages, and noise canceling headphones. The teachers would love to have more items.
The items that we are looking for to be donated are:
How do we learn about our various group identities like female, African American, Buddhist, homosexual, middle class, etc.? From whom do we learn the meaning of these terms? What messages have we internalized about ourselves and others? What are the differences that result in one person having a healthy self identity and another person experiencing own-group shame and hatred? Learn how we can instill positive self identity in our children and coach them to be positive influences on others' identities. Together, we can co-create inclusive communities that work toward success for all.

The district has scheduled a series of public discussions around start of school bell times between April 21 and May 12. Hosted by the district’s Neighbor to Neighbor program, these facilitator-lead discussions will allow you to offer your feedback for consideration by the district.
Currently, the district has identified three potential options regarding bell times, which will be the source of the discussions:
Maurice Masala, one of the founding teachers of Dwankhozi Primary School, will be in Seattle for two weeks at the end of April/early May! The QAE-Dwankhozi Partnership is so excited to host him here and have some wonderful events planned for his stay.
Dwankhozi Partnership Parent Information Night with Maurice is next Tuesday, April 28th from 6-8pm in the Lumen Building common room (the condo building above QFC on Mercer St.) This is a great chance to learn more about our school partnership, welcome Maurice to our community, and spend some time with other parents interested in the partnership. This is not a fundraising event, just a gathering of parents and community members to learn together. Hope to see you there! A discussion on Digital Citizenship at QAE and a preview of the new "Student Internet Handbook & Family Resource Guide" will be held next week, Wednesday, April 29, at 6:30pm in the QAE Cafeteria.
If you plan on attending and will be needing childcare, please RSVP here. April Dates:
