It's a lot like PEPS, a meeting bringing together parents of kids in the same grade level to talk about their children and parenting. Topics are chosen by the parents, and trained parent volunteers lead the discussions. It’s fun and social, but structured too – a perfect way to get to know other parents and share our experiences, advice and support. Join QAE’s first ever ParentNet program on Tuesday, March 11 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This meeting will be open for Kindergarten and First Grade parents. There will be light refreshments and Kids Co will provide child care for nominal fee. More on reservations to come. For more information, contact Jenny Brailey at [email protected]. This is our second PTSA membership meeting of the school year. It will be held on February 27th at 7 p.m. at the school cafteria. We will be hearing from WAPTA Legislative Chair Heidi Bennett on the state of education funding in Washington, as well as from Sue Peters, our newly elected Seattle School Board Director. In addition, we will provide an update on several new initiatives that have been implemented for our school -- including a music residency program and ST Math. We will also hold time for a Q&A with Principal Elliott and members of the PTSA board.
Childcare will be provided at KidsCo. Please sign up here to reserve your spot. Seattle Public Schools will host five community meetings to share information on the District’s five-year Strategic Plan, with tailored comments, topics and data from each of the five educational regions. There will also be time for participants to ask questions of the Superintendent and District leadership.

Thank you, QAE PTSA Auction Team queenanneelementary.com/auction The Seattle School Board voted last night to approve amended Transportation Service Standards for next year. The amendment adjusts the bus arrival times for Tier III schools (of which QAE is a part) to 9:15 -- instead of the previously proposed 9:25, which would have put our school start time at 9:40. The result of this approved amendment is that QAE will likely see only a 5 minute delay in its start and end times for next year (from 9:25 to 9:30 am). An excerpt of the motion reads: This motion addresses the disproportionate and inequitable impact of significantly later arrival and departure times on Tier III schools, which already have the latest arrival and start times in the district. It mitigates against this by adjusting all Tier III arrival times to 9:15 a.m., Tier II to 8:25 a.m. and Tier I to 7:35 a.m., as first proposed by staff. The amended proposal was submitted by QAE's school board director, Sue Peters, who advocated on behalf of our school and our larger community. Thank you to all who let Director Peters and the school board know how they felt about the new proposal. Your voices were heard! The amendment can be found here. Please note that the district and board will explore a more dramatic move to the transportation model for the following school year: This amendment is intended as a one-year solution only, until the district re-evaluates the transportation service standards for the 2015-16 school year, at which time the important goal of reversing high school and elementary bell times can be achieved completely and equitably. |
