Broadway Bound Children’s Theatre is performing ‘The Little Mermaid” in May. QAE has two actresses playing lead roles. Helen Richardson (4th grade) is playing the role of "Ariel", and Erica Richardson (5th grade) is playing "King Triton."
The founder of Broadway Bound, Jimmy Nixon came in to talk at MMM about the upcoming shows and summer camps. Looking for some creative camps for your kids this summer? Consider enrolling them in musical theatre camp. The camps are one week long with a performance on the last day. We’ll play strategy board games and classics alike, outdoor games and computer games, and we’ll dig in to what makes them successful games or duds. We’ll learn about creating games, with at least one visit from a game designer and a field trip to a video game company. During the week, students will also have the chance to create their own games on a computer, on paper, with dice, cards, or any other tools they’d like to incorporate. WEEK 3 FOCUS ON MUSIC JULY 20 - 24, 9:00-3:00, AT QAE What makes a sound become music? Are some patterns just automatically pleasing, while others are instantly disturbing? How do professional musicians create and share their work? During this week, we’ll explore these questions and many more. We'll learn about non-traditional music formats such as found sound, synthesized, and digitally sequenced or composed pieces. Students will bring any musical knowledge they have, whether they’re novices or experts, and create their own compositions using a variety of styles, techniques, and media. We will be exploring more in-depth art projects, including 2D and 3D art, creating songs on GarageBand, exploring songs and dances from around the globe, creating instruments out of recycled materials and exploring the art that is alive in the city! Field trips for study may include: EMP Museum, Seattle Art Museum, Burke Museum, local parks, Woodland Park Zoo, Soundbridge, or more! Please make sure to send a sack lunch with your child, nut-free snacks will be provided daily. Open to incoming grades 1-6; a minimum of 15 students is required Cost: $200 per student - Register Here! WEEK 2 CREATIVE KIDS -- CURTAIN UP! Come make art and explore drama with Ms. Amsel and Ms. Stone! In addition to portraiture, sculpting, painting and print-making, we will also be exploring the world of improv! Learn about how a play is made, how to make up a scene on the spot, how to script a play, rehearse and perform, all within one week! This energetic week will include at least one walking field trip and one trip to a local museum, stage, or outing for field study! Perhaps we will find our next Shakespeare among us!
