Dear QAE Families,
Seattle Public Schools (SPS) is working on creating new attendance area boundaries (Growth Boundaries) to accommodate enrollment growth and new construction. In the current written proposal: 1) QAE students are designated to attend McClure in middle school. 2) QAE would be one of the elementary schools to house "intensive self-contained special ed services" in the school district's re-org of that program. 3) enrollment for several Seattle schools, including QAE would increase. QAE has a new proposed capacity of 525 students. It was not discussed in the written proposal if the BEX Levy money, which QAE was awarded by the voters in 2012 to improve our buildings, will be adequate to accommodate the above proposed changes or if additional funding will be available. At a recent community meeting, SPS suggested the proposed changes would take place upon completing building improvements in 2019. The QAE PTSA encourages you to attend the next Growth Boundaries Meeting on Tuesday October 1st, 6:30pm at Ballard High School, 1418 NW 65th St, Seattle. Principle David Elliott is working with the district to understand impacts of this proposal to our school, including timing and funding. The meeting this Tuesday is an opportunity for our community to become informed and educated about the proposed changes to Queen Anne Elementary and share our ideas and/or concerns with the school district. To read the proposal, please go to: Growth Boundaries SPS web page Questions and comments can also be emailed to SPS at [email protected] Thank you for your time and support of Queen Anne Elementary. Kind regards, Angie Masco QAE PTSA Legislative Co-Chair [email protected] Comments are closed.
