We're so happy everyone is enjoying the garden! Our mission is to continue to create an environment in the garden where our QAE community can:
Observe, Learn, Create, Commune, Meditate, ... and Eat!
At the same time, we need everyone -- adults and kids-- to follow the Garden Rule when it comes to picking:
Please, always ask permission of a teacher or garden staffer before you pick. The only exception to the rule is the Sungold tomatoes-- but even with the Sungolds, we are fair to others and limit the amount that we enjoy, always leaving some behind for our friends.
We've been waiting on a number of red tomatoes to ripen to the point that we could create a salsa for all of our school to enjoy at Monday's lunch. On Thursday morning this past week, we went to the garden and saw that all of the ripe tomatoes had been picked! In addition, the dwarf watermelons, which we were so excited to share with the kids, have been taken as they ripen by an unknown person. Although there are "Ask Before Picking" signs throughout the garden, all of us have loved watching the kids eat and enjoy those beautiful little Sungold Tomatoes so much that we've let them feast! This may have left some parents uncertain about the importance of the "Ask First" rule. We're all learning as we go. We want everyone to enjoy the garden, BUT it's so important that we all follow the rule about picking so that the whole school can use and take pleasure in our crops.
Please communicate this rule to your children and help them to understand the value of a community garden that belongs to each of us.
Thank you so much!
