October 14, 2010
Dear Queen Anne Elementary Parent: Thank you to all who were able to attend the first PTSA membership meeting on October 7th, 2010. At that meeting, the vision and goals for the Queen Anne Elementary PTSA were shared. Then the general PTSA membership approved our 2010-2011 budget and fundraising amount to support these goals. A few important points shared at the meeting before approving the budget and fundraising amount were: •The fundraising goal was developed after meeting with David Elliott to understand what he and the staff need to make Queen Anne Elementary a stronger learning environment for our children •These funds will supplement and cover what is not paid for by the Seattle school district •About 40% of the total fundraising goal includes building a small reserve fund as well as setting aside funds for a strong start to the 2011-2012 school year The funds raised will pay for items such as: •Providing weekly art instruction for all Queen Anne Elementary students •Improving classroom leveled reading libraries •Tutors and assistants to help reduce student/teacher ratio in the classrooms •Buses and other class field trip expenses •Teacher classroom materials requests •Technology support for classrooms •…and much more There are three planned fundraising events: 1.October 22nd Walk-a-thon: this event kicks off our fundraising efforts. It is a great way for kids to have fun, get some exercise, and build relationships with other Queen Anne Elementary students 2.November direct mail campaign: you will soon receive a letter and pledge card with various suggested donation levels to help the Queen Anne Elementary PTSA reach our goal. This is intended to be our primary fundraising opportunity for the 2010/2011 year. 3.Spring “No Auction” event: we will come together to celebrate our first year as Queen Anne Elementary and finish out our fundraising goals, if necessary Our goal is to have 100% participation from the community. The Queen Anne Elementary PTSA realizes that everyone will be able to give in different amounts. Please contribute as you feel you are able. Your 100% tax deductible gift (plus company match if appropriate) will not only enhance the learning environment at Queen Anne Elementary, but also send a clear and positive message to the community that our parents are committed to supporting the mission and future of our exceptional school. Volunteers are also needed to meet our PTSA goals. Please look for opportunities to volunteer to make sure these events are a success. If you want to be added to the volunteer list to hear of specific opportunities, please email Heather Anderson at heather2a@clear.net or Jill Gallagher at jillga@me.com If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your PTSA board members at any time. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
