Springtime & the QAE Garden

Spring is here!  It's time to dust things off and get growing.  The Kindergarteners have already begun with planting a  Pollinator Garden.  Great job!  

We have a number of volunteer opportunities coming up over the next couple of months.

Upcoming Projects:

• First Grade Bird Habit Garden ~ The project is ongoing throughout the spring.  The first grade is linking their Bird PBL project with the garden, and attempting to create a habitat that will attract, feed,and shelter birds.  If you are interested in supporting this project there will be immediate and future opportunities to do so. Please let us know.
• Fourth Grade Starts Sale for Islandwood ~ In the next couple of weeks the fourth grade will begin their spring plant starts that will be sold at the upcoming PBL Showcase/ Farm raiser event at the end of May.  If you are interested in helping with any part of this project, please contact Heather Huntington for more details.
• Living Wall ~ Time to replenish the plants in the living wall.  Mr. Liner is offering a small group of students to help an adult volunteer in this task.  Flexible, mutually agreed on time.
• Spring Edibles Planting ~ We have spring edibles ready to go into the ground. Looking for one or two volunteers to help a group of interested students to get this planting underway.

Ongoing:

• Watering and Weeding ~ We are always in need of volunteers to help with garden maintenance throughout the spring, and into the summer. This can happen on your own schedule. 
• Lunch and Recess Gardening ~ The kids love to help weed and water the garden.  Having a volunteer out in the garden as much as possible during these times gives interested kids an opportunity to get their hands dirty. It can be as simple as setting out the watering cans and helping them water the garden, or you create a project like bug hunting, taste testing, etc.  They love it all.
